Rights Respecting reaches out to the world.

After the amazing response to our shoebox appeals (see School Council Blog ) we decided we would support Sports Relief. Sport Relief is helping to raise money for UNICEF Children's Rights.

Here are some of the articles of the Children's Rights Charter.

You can download a copy of the Little Book of children's Rights

This week was Enterprise Week at BSM so every class raised money by making products to sell for sport relief.

By doing this we are helping to support childrens rights around the world.

'Rights Respecting' reaches out to the community

This term we have been working with the other Blandford schools to take our Rights Respecting message into the community. We prepared a charter  based on the principles of the UNCRC Rights of the child. We created Rights for the citizens of Blandford and accompanied them with the necessary Responsibilities.
Then we took this back to our classes who approved the charter. At our last Schools Council Network meeting we agreed to invite leaders in Blandford to a meeting to show them the charter and see how they felt about it. Each school presented part of the charter. Our Right was 'The Right to be happy and safe'. Phoebe and Liam went out and about around our school to see how this could be related to our community.

Well done Phoebe and Liam. You were fantastic!

Enterprise week. Raising money for Comic Relief.

This week everyone will be busy developing their own class businesses and producing items to sell at our fabulous Enterprise fair on Friday. Children will be learning the principles of making a profit and the ethics of fair trade.
There may well be a bit of a red nose theme in some classes as all the money raised will be going to Comic Relief.

Comic Relief describes its mission as bringing about 'positive change through the power of entertainment'. It was established in 1985, and since then has helped tackle poverty and social injustice at home and abroad by :
  • inspiring people across the country to join in with fundraising

  • raising more than £425 million

  • making over 6000 grants in the UK

  • making over 1700 grants internationally.
The charity promises that for every pound it gets directly from the public, the same amount will go directly to projects helping the poorest and most disadvantaged people.

Steps towards a RR community for Blandford.

Today Holleigh as School Council Rep. and Oliver as RRS Rep visited Downlands School  with Mrs. Rees for the termly network meeting.
Each school presented its School Charter and then we discussed which of the Rights from the UNCRC would be appropriate for a community charter for Blandford.
We are very excited about this development for our town, and after the amazing success of the lantern parade optimistic that we can really make a difference.

School Charter

Oliver [RRS Representative] and the School council met to discuss exactly what qualities  we want our school community  to value and develop. The charter was then taken to staff and the governors.
We will present it in assembly on Wednesday for whole school approval.

The back packs begin their journey.

Today representatives from The Blandford School came to collect our school contribution for the back pack appeal. School council members and our Rights Respecting Reps. celebrated the success of the appeal and helped pack the bags up for their long journey.

All our best wishes go with them!
